Located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, ISG operates schools in Dhahran (Al-Khobar), Dammam, Jubail, and Yanbu. Our seven ISG American, British, International schools provide opportunities for students preparing for High School graduation, AP examinations, I/GCSE, SSAT, PSAT, and CB SAT. ISG accepts enrollment for Pre-KG – grade 12 students. Our teachers deliver an American, British, International curriculum to students of over forty nationalities.
On behalf of the administration of the seven schools that comprise ISG, I would like to invite you to a unique parent event. The district has embarked on a campaign to adopt a set of core ethical values. In the winter months, through a valuing activity, we will collect the voices of students, teachers, and parents. The draft list of values (four to six in total) from each constituency will be presented to the Board of Trustees for adoption.
The parent portion of this initiative will take place on Wednesday, 4 December, in the Dhahran Campus Auditorium; all parents from across the district are welcome to attend. We will begin at 18:00, and be finished by 19:30. The evening will start with a brief introduction from me, and then we will participate in the activity. At the conclusion of the activity, a list of several ethical values will be submitted. A follow-up survey will be sent to all parents in the district (whether they attended or not) (including Yanbu). The values receiving the greatest number of votes will be sent on to the ISG administration for consideration.
Why is ISG endeavoring on this task? A set of core ethical values, adopted by the community, affirms the types of behavior that we expect out of the adults and the children. When made visible, it helps induct new members into the community. It helps us navigate the multitude of ethical dilemmas we face every day, and gives us strength in morality. It sets the tone for a school's climate, where any member can say, “It's how we act around here.” It's a way of looking at our world, and making sense of it. By ISG making a strong statement on ethical principles, and ensuring it permeates all facets of the district, we set the tone for our future actions and decisions.
I hope you will join us for the event, and if you cannot, that you participate in the follow-up survey. It is important to RSVP for this event, so we can prepare for the activity, and so we can clear you for the Dhahran walk-in gate. To RSVP, please contact Mrs. Kelly McDermott at
Sincerely, Dr. Paul D. Richards Superintendent, ISG
Due to heavy flooding in the Eastern Province, and continued weather instability, ISG will operate Virtual School for Thursday, November 21. All campuses will be closed (Yanbu will operate normally).
I'd like to take the opportunity to thank the many people who have risen to the challenges presented this week: the teachers for reworking their lesson plans via VS; the students for working hard to complete assignments; the parents for being flexible with the unanticipated supervision of their children, and the myriad support staff for mopping up classrooms and other areas. I believe that ISG via Virtual School has provided the most robust continuation of curriculum in the entire area.
ISG has seen extensive flooding on its campuses across the province. Jubail, Dammam, and Dhahran each have significant cleaning and repairs to do. Our hope is that the dryer weather coming our way will allow for a normal opening on Sunday morning. Mrs. Barnhouse will provide further updates to the DEMS community regarding parent-teacher conferences.
